Lazy, Soft and Slow re-issue

The first time on vinyl for Guy’s solo album originally released in 1998 on Setanta records and produced by The Cocteau Twins Robin Guthrie.

It’s released on the 24th January 2025 on vinyl specialist Optic Nerve Recordings.

The album will be simultaneously released digitally on Shine On Records with an additional bonus track ‘Slaughterhouse Friend’ and available on all DSPs.

This Limited deluxe coloured vinyl re-issue includes the 2 bonus tracks * originally available on the Japanese CD release of the same year. It features an 8 page booklet with original and unseen photos from the same sessions and full lyrics and gold coloured vinyl.

Guy’s solo debut is a gorgeous and seemingly effortless collection of breezy love songs. Robin Guthrie’s warm production serves these gentle songs wonderfully, and Guy's backing musicians complement him masterfully (Guthrie also played bass on eight songs). Lazy, Soft and Slow should warm your soul for many Sunday mornings to come. This album is magic, and the title says everything about the music: it's Lazy, Soft & Slow.

The critics at the time said this:

Mojo – ‘Velvet Underground inspired elegance – Enchanting - Unfathomable grace’

NME – ‘Its rich melodic luxury is enough to swim in - Dark but elegant allure - Unorthodox deep pile tunes’

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH – ‘Delectable devotional love tunes - a deliciously warm web of sound - A serene and dreamy album’

THE TIMES – ‘ Gorgeous pop songs - A polished gem ‘

THE GUARDIAN - ‘A Little Beauty’

NEW BAND LINE-UP

The House Of Love announces that former band members Terry, Pete, Matt and Guy are going their separate ways and that he has put together a new line-up. The pandemic has been a catalyst of change in Guy’s decision, with him working closer to home with other musicians in preparation for the postponed North American tour. Guy wanted Terry to be involved but he declined and will make his own statement in due course. Although they were not in agreement about the split, they remain friends .

Having had to turn down many USA tour offers over the years, as some members of the band did not wish to travel there, Guy decided to put a new band together to tour North America last year.  Although postponed due to the pandemic, this new band had nonetheless become a tight unit, rehearsing all the classics and working on new material as an album began to take shape over the various breaks in lockdowns.   Guy says  - ‘The forthcoming new album is most definitely a classic House of Love record, with different musicians bringing a new enthusiasm, energy and vibrancy to what I feel are the best set of songs I have written for years.’

The band are all from the South Coast music town of Hastings, known for its exciting music scene and pool of musical talent and all have their own projects in addition to joining the House of Love.

They are Keith Osborne on Lead Guitar, Harry Osborne on Bass and Hugo Degenhardt on Drums.

Hugo has toured and recorded with many bands and artists worldwide including Bryan Ferry, Rod Stewart, and Steve Hackett, Fink’s Sunday Night Blues Club Album, and long-time collaborators Chester Kamen and Dale Davis as The Twins.

Keith is a multi -instrumentalist who in addition to Guitar plays Pedal Steel, Dobro Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Keyboards. He also engineers and produces in his own studio. Previous bands include The Past Present Organization, Idlewild, Helicopter Girl and Reuben’s Train. He is also a big part of the local music scene organizing various events and gigs (in normal times!).

Harry Osborne is also a multi-instrumentalist, writer and producer.Having worked with Stephen Hague (New Order), Kevin Armstrong (Bowie), Toby Andersen, and Youth on recording projects, sessions and live shows. Harry has his own band called "Someone Anyone" who are making waves in UK Jazz and Indie scene.

NORTH AMERICA AND TOKYO TOUR DATES

Guy and the band were incredibly disappointed when the Covid 19 caused the postponement of the May 2020 tour. It was heart breaking to be so close to visiting North America after so many years absence and for it to be curtailed due to this pandemic. We are currently tentatively rescheduling in North America for May 2022, but clearly concerts can only commence once we and the relevant authorities are confident it will be safe for everyone. All tickets will be valid for new dates but any fans who want a refund can do so at the point of purchase.

We hope to have news of the Tokyo concerts soon too.

YOUTUBE & MERCH

We are working with Universal to launch our official artist channel on YouTube which will include restored videos from the Fontana era, plus early Creation videos and hopefully some surprises! This is taking longer than expected, but should be live soon.

Two designs of our retro range of shirts are still available to buy. The House Of Love classic script is also available in a long sleeve version.

NEW ALBUM RECORDING BEGINS

A long awaited new album is in the throes of being recorded and we hope should be released by the end of 2021 on our own new record label, Shine On Records. The last two lockdowns have slowed progress, hence the delay.Guy believes these are the best set of songs he has written for years and is excited to share them with you as soon as possible. The working title is 'A State of Grace’ and we expect to release it on CD and special edition vinyl in addition to all streaming platforms.

#STAY SAFE

We hope that Guy's #Stay Safe live streams provided some comfort and inspiration during the strange time of the lockdown. We were knocked out to be joined online by so many fans. All the comments and reactions were heart-warming indeed.
